The temperatures this week have been blissfully cold!  In fact, yesterday most of greater Austin was closed down due to the sleet and ice that accumulated over the previous night.

Chuck worked from home for a good part of the morning but at 9:30 he decided to take the car for a skate down Parmer Lane.  Thirty-minutes or so later he was back at the house because Parmer was a sheet of ice and he didn’t like the way some of the skaters were hogging the road, showing off their spins and bumping the other cars onto the shoulder.

The boys were excited to venture outside in the cold.  It’s precious to see how wonderfully entertained they are by the magic of a layer of ice on the sidewalk.  They carefully slid around the cars, plucking off the icicles that had formed so they could keep them in zip-locks in the freezer until summer.  I don’t mind; there’s room in the freezer and if Daddy’s business continues its current streak of success we might need those icicles to feed the family.

After I decided that the ice had melted enough, I went out to the car to fetch Chris’s red winter jacket.  Chuck was working at the desk in the front room with the window blinds fully raised so that he could keep an eye on the kids outside.  On my way back from the van I forgot to watch for ice patches and the next thing I knew my feet slid out from under me forcing me into contortions rivaling, if I do say so myself, any of the acrobats in Cirque du Soleil.  Chuck was further impressed by the Chinese Ribbon Dance effect I pulled off with the flailing red jacket and the fact that I did not land “bum over tin cups.”

Alas, I’m not as lithe and flexible as I once was and thankfully the roads had cleared by late afternoon so that I could keep my appointment with the Chiropractor.
