...that I haven’t done my Christmas shopping yet?   No, no, I don't mean that I haven’t “finished” it yet, I mean I haven't “started” it.

Sure, I could be all stressed but, then again, what’s the point?  At least when I was a Jehovah’s Witness I could use my “religion” as an excuse.  Maybe I still can?

No.  The cat’s out of the bag – I’m just a lazy procrastinator.

No.  The cat’s out of the bag – I’m just a lazy procrastinator.

My out-of-town family members are used to receiving their Christmas presents in February and, perhaps, even look forward to the mid-winter surprise.  In fact, Grandma, Mom, Sis, Lil’ Bro’; I think I’ll just let you know right now that, this year, presents are going to go out sometime in March.  After all, isn’t springtime closer to Jesus’s real birthday?  And Dad and Alice?  Don’t be too disappointed.  The Outlet Malls in Gulfport where we usually stop to buy your Christmas presents on our way to Florida for New Years, well, it was swept away by Katrina.  Don’t know what we’re going to do now.

It happens every year.  September rolls around and I casually observe to myself that Christmas is only 3 months away.  I buy a beautiful pair of wall sconces that I’m sure will look lovely in my sister’s new home, or splurge on some nice smelling bubbles from Crabtree and Evelyn for my mom.  By October, I’ve hung said beautiful sconces in my own home, enjoyed immensely the bath pleasures and promise myself that I’ll buy each of them something even better later.

Suddenly, with nearly 2 month’s warning, it’s November!  And since it’s still hotter than h-e-double-toothpicks in Texas I’m having trouble accepting that this is as good as Fall gets, and I’d better get busy on the Christmas shopping ‘cause we’re down to less than 2 months.

Hmmm, what to buy Uncle Greg – he enjoys golf, gambling and guitars.  Okay, socks.  Mom’s birthday is 2 days after Christmas – how about a nice gourmet Texas style gift basket (Shoot!  No such thing?  Chips and Salsa, then.)   I’ve got to do better than last year when all she got was a holler.  I’m making progress on the list.  It just still feels too early to do Christmas shopping.

Ah, Thanksgiving arrives.  I’ve been shopping on November 26th once in my life.  I did manage to get the incident stricken from my record.  The old lady shouldn’t have tried to wrestle me for that cart and thankfully my boyfriend’s parents had full coverage on their car.  (That was before I became a Christian, of course.)

3 weeks to go.  Still plenty of time to get presents sent – now we need a paycheck.  “Chuck, expecting any receivables?”

2 weeks to go.  Chuck doesn’t even ask me about Christmas cards anymore.  We let go of that pressure several years ago.

The boys have made their Santa lists.  I hope everything’s still in stock on Christmas Eve!

It’s now December 20, and I’m sitting at my keyboard wondering if there’s an on-line retailer that offers free shipping and can guarantee delivery by Christmas Eve.

Hey, I’m still early!  I found one.  I hope the family enjoys their books.
